This page is in memory of our very special boy, Monty (Broadheath Dare to Stare)
Here he is at 8 weeks old
Monty was a true Saint in every way, up until he was 3 years of age he was a very healthy boy, but in the latter years he had quite a few health concerns. He had to deal with contracting Pseudomonas and MRSA infections, and then when he was 5 years old he suffered with a GDV (Gastric Dilatation Volvulus) which means that in deep chested larger breeds the stomach can fill with gas and turn on itself causing shock and possibly death. We were very lucky that we spotted it extremely quickly and rushed him to our vets. Our vet said that because we acted upon it so promptly he made a full recovery within days. We will post more on this condition on our health problem page.
He then was diagnosed with cervical disc disease in the last couple of years, and then in February of this year was dignosed with bone cancer in his left foreleg. We went down the route of a trial drug (with Tom Cave at Cave Referrals), which is meant to inhibit the growth of the cancer cells, and to make the bone stronger, which is a worry with osteosarcoma, as the cancer will weaken the bone. Unfortunately he only had one treatment before he started suffering with seizures. At that point we made the decision to save him suffering anymore and say goodbye.
Right up until the day we let him go, he was the bravest boy, he never once complained he was in pain. He was still scrounging for cake right till the end, bless him. We are so grateful that the Kennel Club gave us our first choice on our affix, Loyal Monty "Lealemont", He is with us in spirit every single day
We both would like to thank Sarah Warren, our very compassionate vet who took absolute fantastic care of him throughout his life, she was just amazing with him, we are so grateful for her treatment of him especially at the very end. Thank you Sarah xxx
