We have owned Saint Bernards since 2002, it was actually Craig who actually first thought of owning a Saint Bernard, once the idea was there, that was it, we must have read every book going on Saints, scoured the internet, rang breeders to talk about owning one.
We then found out about a litter in December 2002 from Claudia and David Gooch from the kennel "Broadheath" who are based in Norwich, they had their last boy available, after hours on the phone chatting to them, off we went the next day to have a look at this special chap. We met his dad "Joesph" CH Chandlimore The Commitment At Broadheath, blimey he was huge!! and his mum who wandered in, with Mo hanging onto the end of her tail, oh my word he was the cutest thing we'd ever seen. Our life would never be the same again.........
Well fluffy little Monty was ours, after a massive journey back home, nearly 6 hours later, we arrived, craig ran in the house to put newspaper down, he walked into the house and straight into the house and both toilets on the paper, it was a sign of things to come, he was such a good boy.
The next four years were the best, Monty was such a well behaved dog, and we took him everywhere we possibly could, he really enjoyed walking around car boot sales, and we made many visits to the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth, once when we went, about twenty donkeys came over to the fence to meet him, he had a fantastic temperament. We had a couple of holidays to America, and my mum always looked after him, Nanny and Monty adored one another so much, he loved her, and always dragged us to get to her, they had a very special bond. He was always so gentle with my dad aswell, for the size they are, they can be delicate when they need to be.
In 2006 we met a lovely lady called Kathy Lane via the internet, she along with her husband Steve have the kennel "Lanebern", they had a lovely litter of puppies in November out of Danny "Chandlimore The Challenger With Lanebern" who we had admired ringside. She invited us up to her house, to meet her dogs and see how things are done on a larger scale. We were "thinking" of having a friend for Monty, I think she had ulterior motives as she had one puppy dog left (can you see a trend here lol), we sat chatting when she said do you want to meet Bobby aka Mr Blobby, well this incredibly cute puppy just bonded with Craig, it was love at first sight. He was really the most adorable little chap.
Here is Bobby at 13 weeks, surrounded by his and Monty's toys, they certainly don't go without!
Unfortunately Monty was not that happy at having a new playmate as much as we had hoped, he was never aggressive towards him, instead pretending that Bobby didn't exist, once when they were left downstairs for a few seconds, Monty attempted to jump the stairgate to get away from this "evil creature" LOL
Here they are, not long after Bobby arrived, I think you can see Monty looks a bit put out, it took a good nine months, but after that they were the very best of friends, they absolutely adored one another
Here they are, just after Christmas, bestest buds
